	There are 8,765 hours in a year, and at the end of it, millions of euros’ worth of fireworks go up in smoke in the Netherlands, as in many other parts of the world. Many people enjoy this, but for animals, New Year’s Eve is a total nightmare. To make their experience tangible, Sebastian Mulder’s documentary takes an original approach: in the run-up to the big night, dogs belonging to different owners are fitted with a GoPro, and we follow their movements.

From the first bangs during the day to the deafening spectacle at midnight and in the hours afterwards, we witness the tension, stress and fear of the animals and their owners. This is certainly no celebration. We also see the effects on animals in pastures and in nature—the panic among horses, foxes and birds is filmed using infrared cameras.

The poetry of the nighttime shots and the fireworks filmed in slow motion contrast starkly with the trembling, panting and slobbering animals in bare bathrooms and under beds. No commentary is needed, the images and sound speak for themselves, and the message is loud and clear—even louder than the fireworks.

And a Happy New Year is a coproduction with Dieren Bescherming Nederland, Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst,&#38;nbsp;Stichting Bouwstenen voor Dierenwelzijn, Mevrouw de Advocaat, De Koninklijke Hondenbescherming, World Animal Protection, Stichting Abri Voor Dieren, Nederlands Film Fonds and&#38;nbsp;Stichting Dier &#38;amp; Recht. The film is also made possible by the A-38 Stipendium from&#38;nbsp;Kasseler Dokfest and all the donors at our Voordekunst crowdfunding campaign.

The short documentary NAYA – Der Wald hat tausend Augen follows the life of Naya, a wolf that walked from eastern Germany to Belgium tagged with a GPS collar. The first wolf in Belgium in a hundred years, she suddenly makes headlines – but then her presence takes a mysterious turn. This voyeuristic visual collage of wildlife and surveillance camera imagery captivatingly explores the relationship between humans and this iconic wild animal.

Even by just taking the disembodied point of view of automatic cameras, ‘Naya’ covers an almost incredible amount of ground, and not only geographically: in addition to the relationship between humans, nature and technology, it deals with the effects of commercialism and capitalism, with animals' rights and the increasingly hard-to-justify issue of hunting. But most pointedly it deals with the elusive cushiness of the civilisation that we've built in the West and how we've forgotten that real nature still exists around us.Read the full review by Talking Shorts here.
NAYA is a coproduction with the Evangelische Omroep (EO), The Netherlands Film Fund and the CoBO Fund.

	Nature: All Rights Reserved investigates the role of simulated nature in modern society. The film shows how artificial nature meets the needs of today's city dwellers and where it still falls short compared to real nature. A romantic forest wallpaper, an indoor tropical island and phenomena such as artificial grass and stuffed animals take the viewer into the world of this new kind of nature. Towards the end the film looks at the uncertain future, in which the arrival of new technologies such as Virtual Reality will blur the lines between reality and illusion. Could artificial nature replace real nature?
This graduation film was made with support from HKU and Cinecrowd.

		<description>
There is no impossibility as to what ‘form’ conscious life may take.
 Because of our infinite relationships, potentialities are there. The shapes of form are not yet exhausted and there are no miracles beyond living matter. Though flesh in its most radiant beauty is miraculous, it does not imply that Nature has exhausted all possibilities of pleasuring in flesh.

	“The mind in repose becomes the speculum of all creation” — we hear too much about relaxing and ‘meditation’. My mind (and I expect yours) works in reverse — the stimulus is from without — always chaotic, procreative and spatial of strange conjunctures; and ‘repose’ a period of fatigue or sleep, a renewal of the tension necessary for contexturation of creativity.

	The supreme defeat is resignation. The triumph over death and all things is by fearless desire. There is not one thing obtained in this world except by effort and struggle to render desire. The born genius is only spending the virtue of previous effort.
